Rock vs. Pop/Hip Pop
Of course there are people with many different tastes in music ranging from classical to opera and many more. But I want to talk about two of the biggest genres today in the 21st century: rock and pop/hip pop. Today, many of people from age 9-16 average listen to pop and hip pop. It can be argued that pop and hip pop are the most listened to genre of this generation, but many people can disagree with that and say millions of people listen to rock, metal, heavy metal, etc. I, being one of those people, agree with that statement. Some popular pop/ hip pop artists are Nicki Minaj, who is famous for singing "Super Bass" and Bruno Mars, who is known for singing, "I wanna be a billionaire" with Travie McCoy and "Grenade." These artists have some talent, but don't have as much skill at song writing as rock artists such as Metallica, Greenday, and Judas Priest. These artists have to write lyrics, write notes and put it all together and see if it fits. In my opinion, rock is requires more skill to write, but has less listeners. Rock will never die, but it did have its time, just like any other type of music. Its time was in the 1970s to 1990s when famous bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Kiss, and ACDC all formed. These bands are all legends, but that time period wasn't the only time for that kind of music. Rock is dying down now in 2011, but there are still many famous bands forming now that are very talented and do get a lot of attention, but not as much as they deserve. Some of these bands are Disturbed, Greenday, or Three Days Grace.
This was my first blog and I hope I didn't do that bad on it.
